Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced Cashier to join its Durbanville store. The successful candidate will assist customers at the point of sale while providing a professional and efficient shopping experience.
The role involves processing customer transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem operating system while following company policies and procedures. The cashier will also be responsible for handling payments, assisting customers with queries and maintaining high standards of accuracy and service.
Requirements
Applicants must have a Grade 12 or Matric qualification and at least six months of experience in cashier or till operations. Candidates should be computer literate, including basic MS Office skills, and have sound numerical abilities.
Strong English communication skills and basic customer service experience are required. Applicants must also be willing and able to work retail hours.
Reliable transport or residence within close proximity to the Durbanville store is required. Candidates must be South African citizens and have clear credit and criminal records.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will process purchases and payments using cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other accepted payment methods. They will also process customer loyalty cards and ensure that cash and daily takings are handled securely and confidentially.
The cashier will assist customers with merchandise-related queries, process authorised returns and exchanges, remain aware of current promotions and maintain professional relationships with customers.
The position also requires employees to follow Dis-Chem’s security and customer service procedures, report suspicious behaviour and customer complaints, and ensure that transactions, price changes and stock movements are processed accurately.
Skills and Competencies
Candidates should have good knowledge of cash registers, cash drawers, sales, refunds and payment processing. Accuracy, attention to detail, accountability, honesty and good time management are important for this position.
Strong communication skills, problem-solving ability, emotional intelligence and social awareness are also required. Knowledge of an additional language will be advantageous.
