Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering an exciting opportunity for learners to join their Dispensary Support Learnership Programme. This initiative is designed to train individuals to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course successfully.

Programme Overview:

This Learnership provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of key principles related to the pharmaceutical field and dispensing, emphasizing quality on-the-job training. Successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term basis as Dispensary Support staff until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment will be offered upon qualification as a basic pharmacist assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or substances.
  • Support the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines as per approved procedures.
  • Unpack, merchandise, and maintain dispensary and OTC shelves.
  • Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately and perform duties professionally, adhering to SAPC guidelines.
  • Ensure correct picking, packing, labeling, and verification of medications.
  • Monitor stock levels, organize shelves, and manage medicine expiry dates.
  • Assist with patient script tracking, follow-ups, and appointments.
  • Handle scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.
  • Provide health-related information to individuals.
  • Report stock discrepancies and errors.
  • Receive dispensary stock following the company’s SOPs.

Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 with Mathematics (Higher Grade) and either Physical Science or Life Science, with an average of 50% or higher.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in English and a second language (read, write, speak).
  • Time management, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication, customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy and numerical aptitude.
