COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA LIAISON OFFICER
At NUPSAW Head Office, Pretoria.
REMUNERATION: A salary of R319 824 per annum, plus motor vehicle allowance, housing allowance, compulsory provident fund and voluntary medical aid
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide a media and communication support structure for the Union’s activities, negotiations and dispute resolution functions.
KEY RESULTANT AREA
Reporting
- Research, interpreting and reporting on collective bargaining and labour relations matters.
- Co-ordinate, edit and produce communication material.
- Media liaison (handle media enquiries, write media releases, monitor and evaluate media).
- Develop advertising and marketing campaigns.
- Communicate NUPSAW activities with all members and staff
Electronic and social media
- Maintain and update the website, internet and social media activities.
- Initiate interesting and positive stories for social media.
- Immediate reporting on NUPSAW activities on social media.
- Scan newspapers for union/employee related news.
Publications
- Writing articles for newsletter.
- Editing articles received from stake holders, staff and members.
- Doing lay-out and graphic design of newsletter, pamphlets, posters, new flashes, calendars and diaries.
- Liaise with printers and oversee the printing processes.
Photography and Video Recording
- Taking photographs during events as well as video recording.
- Editing of photos, prepare and reproduce for publishing on web and printing.
- Editing videos.
Marketing
Develop marketing material and oversee the distribution process.
Public Relations
- Organise events, trade union congresses and councils.
- Handle all enquiries from general public.
- Represent NUPSAW on affiliated forums and report back in writing
- Handle media enquiries
INHERENT REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
Qualifications
The incumbent should have attained the required knowledge and skills through completion of a Degree or Diploma in Communication and Media Liaison combined with appropriate experience. Equivalencies will be considered.
Knowledge
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Computer literate in Desktop Lay-out and Design Programs: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Joomla, Internet browsing, PowerPoint, MS Word and Excel.
- Well-versed in the world of Media and Communication,
- Knowledge of Labour Relations legislation.

- Copy writing, editing and proofreading skills in English.
